Mice Jankulovski- Harris Kondosphyris

Ο8.03 – 07.04.2018

Opening: Thursday 8th of March 2018, 19.00 – 22.00

Foreword by Ms. Melanie Zefferino, curator of the Florence Biennial

Mice Jankulovski is presenting parts of his latest comprehensive conceptual series of basic forms painted on canvas. The main attributes of the works are minimalism and multiplication.

The basic forms (circle, square, triangle) are systematically applied to large square canvases with only one color, black. Forms are created by making patterns of spreads on the thick layer of black paint. An additional impression of positive/negative is achieved depending on whether the spreads are applied to the background or in the forms themselves. These series of works are made by the multiplication of the forms within the canvases, as well as by the multiplication of the canvases, resulting in large conceptual works.

Light is an integral part of Jankulovski’s works. His experience in palindromic forms and animated film offer infinite combinations for the presentation of his works to the viewers.

Parallel to Jankulovski, Harris Kondosphyris is presenting wall-mounted works related to the research he has been undertaking, concerning the marking of emptiness as space and its formation into a de-personalized entity.

The basic formations of lakeside landscapes, resembling the depths of the Balkans, like Prespa, create cracks on the cement in which they are made, causing the destruction of their own material.  Tones of grey tones and openings designed by water and roads fabricate lacy reflections of dead light, where the unstable function of elongated geometric horizons that we never sat to see, prevails.

The built-in space morphology is determined by the lack of opportunities for observation from the height and position of someone who is sitting on a chair. Minimalism is being rebuilt, by reducing the overground to underground and the miniature angles to a dialectic of the inner and outer space. Thus suggesting an inner capacity as the only organized perspective of the distance between a house and the universe. These landscapes are floating like unspoken and unexperienced places, anchored by the reflections.

Open hours: Tues., Thu., Fri.: 12.00 – 20.00 / Wed., Sat.: 12.00 -15.00
